“Hong Swa Meditation”
Kriya Brochure
The next subject in our Kriya series is Hong Swa. It is identification of the self with the universal reality — “I am That” — through the act of harmonizing and spiritualizing our breath. Breath is the current of soul that joins body, mind and spirit, touching our innermost life and returning in a perpetual rhythmic cycle. As we let our mind and breath settle into each other, this conscious breathing interacts with the universal breath. Breath becomes our teacher in the rhythm of life.
”The flame of pure-consciousness is eternally ignited within this body. By the meditation of Hong Swa, all delusion having been dispelled, the Self is revealed in its effulgent glory. The supreme Self is Hong Swa, which leads to the realization of Sohong in wisdom and bliss."
Svetasvatara Upanishad
Translation by Swami Premananda
Eight Upanishads
”Hong Swa lifts our subjective mind above all shadows of limitations, releasing unnecessary or harmful memories by the power of its truth. The benefits of this meditation are three-fold: physical, mental and spiritual, as you detach yourself from your own body, focusing on the transcendental process of breathing. The practice of Hong Swa thus unites our consciousness with the power of prana through our breath.”
The Breath of God and PranayamSwami Kamalananda
”Hong Swa is the spiritualization of the breathing by saturating with God-consciousness the air we inhale and exhale. Since air is the vital substance that we inhale, then let it be made pure and spiritual by the conscious awareness of the permeating presence of God. Kriya is the spiritualization of Prana functioning within our spinal system and brain. It is the sanctification of Prana at its source within our being.”
