”The Sacred AUM”
Sunday Bulletin

For the final Sunday of our annual Kriya Yoga Meditation Series, we dwell upon the sacred “seed” syllable of AUM. By our meditation on the vibratory power and meaning of AUM, we transcend all limitations and reach the infinite. We meditate on the glory of that effulgent reality from which the whole universe is projected.

“Meditation on AUM is the supreme method of spiritual illumination and divine revelation. It leads to transcendental realization of absolute oneness with God.”

Raja Yoga: The Yoga of God-Realization
Swami Premananda

"The Self is symbolized by the word AUM. AUM is composed of three mystic sound vibrations. These also signify the first three states of consciousness in the self. Beyond these three, there is the fourth sound of AUM which is the soundless sound of cosmic vibration. It cannot be heard. It transcends all powers of sense perception. In it is realized Bliss in unqualified Self-Consciousness. This is AUM, the Cosmic Symbol of the Absolute Self."

Mandukya Upanishad
Translation by Swami Premananda
Eight Upanishads

“The first projection of the Reality into creation is vibration, and vibration creates all material things. The material universe is varying degrees of the primordial being. Solids, liquids, gases, molecules, elements, atoms, electrons, and sub-atomic particles—all reduced to prana, the life energy, or vibration. The physical differences between states of matter or bodies of atoms, stars or creatures is only due to the rate and combination of vibration.

”But understanding vibration as cosmic, that is, from the absolute, is not enough. Something is needed to direct vibration—to direct its course of involution and evolution, and to arrange it into universes of beings. The Absolute Consciousness or Pure Being (SAT) transcends creation; the Cosmic Consciousness (TAT) exists in relation to creation; and AUM, the cosmic vibration exists as the World (the Holy Spirit) conveying the Spirit Absolute into self-manifestation.

“Vibration expreses itself in sound, but of course not all vibratory sounds are audible to the human ear. The cosmic vibration of AUM is not heard by our sense faculties, but it can be perceived in our meditation at Ajna as our individual consciousness establishes its contact with God, the Cosmic Self.”
