”A Message from the Soul”

Atman refers to the essence within us that persists amidst all change, distinct from the mind and the body. This immanent and transcendent innermost essence of every being, is one, even though the external manifests in various forms. Embodied personality can change while Atman does not. In Advaita Vedanta, it is pure consciousness. Atman-Brahman is the subject of all the Upanishads. By meditation we learn the message of the Soul, the Self, Atman.

“Few desire to hear about the Self, and even among those who hear, few aspire to realize the Self. Only men of subjective meditation realize the Self. But few, indeed, are such men of realization.”

”The Self is not known through study of the scriptures, nor through subtlety of the intellect, nor through much learning; but by him who longs for him is he known. Verily unto him does the Self reveal his true being. By learning, a man cannot know him, if he desist not from evil, if he control not his senses, if he quiet not his mind, and practice not meditation.

“Know that the Self is the rider, and the body the chariot; that the intellect is the charioteer, and the mind the reins. The senses say the wise, are the horses; the roads they travel are the mazes of desire. The wise call the Self the enjoyer when he is united with the body, the senses and the mind.”
