What is the secret to attaining peace? The idea of peace takes so many forms. We speak of global peace or inner peace. But any prospect of peace is so easily disturbed. We speak of everlasting or eternal peace when we refer to existence beyond the physical domain of life on this earth. We use the phrase, “Rest in Peace” at the end of human life. And yet the idea of “living” in peace seems exceptionally challenging to say the least. How do we realize peace?
“Silence is a great help to a seeker of after truth like myself. In the attitude of silence, the soul finds the path in clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long arduous quest after truth, and the soul requires inward restfulness to attain its full height.”
Mahatma Gandhi
“Every person craves self-composure and strength of calmness, yet few people are willing to devote even a few minutes of their day to find themselves in silence and solitude.
Yet, we can free ourselves from the habits of worldliness and get into the peace of self-subjectivity in many beautiful, meditative ways: For instance, some people enjoy absorbing themselves in the thought of being part of the all-pervasive beauty and peace of God. They walk alone, “losing themselves” in the company of God in nature, communing with the vastness of the heavens above them or answering the hypnotic invitation whispered from a woodland stream at their feet.
A love of the “inner life” includes finding in the quietness and loveliness of the world surrounding us a self-revealing subjective calm. This comprehensive mood of inspiration is a prerequisite for meditation. The habits of quietness, reverie and reverence for nature are themselves important components of meditation.”

“One who has attained perfect control over his mind and complete mastery over his senses who is free from attachment and aversion, while living in the world of sense objects, he realizes peace. Impossible is the attainment of wisdom by the uncontrolled mind. Impossible is meditation for the restless. Peace can never be attained without meditation. And unless one has realized peace within, where else can one find it?”
Srimad-Bhagavad-Gita: The Revelation of the Supreme Self
